Desire

Last monsoon,
when the rain washed into my windows
and touched my fingertips....
I found you waiting in the yard,
You stood silent in the downpour,
rain-drenched ,
Your silhouette against the crimson of the horizon....
and your smile spread across the sky
over the clouds.

Rain drops trickled down your face
on your cheeks
down to your neck and lost themselves.....
As I sank helplessly
in the depths of your eyes
I heard you laugh...
and it rang through me
like the sound of ankle bells .
I watched you ....
I watched you from spaces apart
from the universe unbound...
and then you held my hand..
and kissed me .....

Dawn broke into my room
through the foliage of the trees
and lit up the dark corners
I wanted your company,
in the light and in the loneliness.....
That morning I learnt the meaning of desire
of madness , of selfish love
and you .....

I found you again
standing in the yard, silent,
your smile spread across the sky.....

I really like this. The monsoon season of Arizona always fascinated me. Scared me a few times, but I loved them just the same.

Now you have this girl out there, waiting...

"That morning I learnt the meaning of desire, of madness, of selfish love and you..."

Beautiful!

"I learnt the meaning of desire
of madness , of selfish love" -- liked this. It is all too common to hear people talk about how selfless they are in their love, but the truth is love is ultimately a very selfish emotion, that which begs the filling up of the deepest of voids inside us. And yes, desire has its role to play as well.

Nice post. Enjoyed reading it, and the picture suited the words in a counter-intuitive way.

That is such a sensual poem embodying desire. I've felt the object of desire taking on that morphological form, becoming nature, becoming hidden and present in everything. I like the way this poem has an affair with water and the sky. It casts a great mood! The thing that is longed for is everywhere that you are obsessed with it, and hidden because you still want it.
